Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Dish Technologies, in Englewood CO, has an opening for an Embedded Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team with an atmosphere similar to that of a start-up where ideas are encouraged and explored daily. This embedded engineer will get to be hands on in the design, development and maintenance of set top box applications for satellite and internet based whole home audio/video entertainment solutions, with a special focus on video-streaming.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create, design, implement and test exciting new features for Android TV and/or DISH s existing embedded platforms.
  • Work within a development team using change control and source code management systems
  • Work in a dynamic development environment and be responsible for delivering reliable software components
  • Determine root cause for the complex software issues and develop practical, efficient, and permanent technical solutions.

Skills, Experience and Requirements:

Qualifications:

A successful Embedded Engineer II will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of programming experience in C, C++ or Java
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conceptualize business and user requirements into user-friendly and efficient software applications.
  • Experience developing software for embedded consumer electronic devices, or interfacing with third-party APIs and SDKs
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Android Software Development
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodology is a plus
  • Familiarity with software Configuration Management tools such as Git
  • Familiarity of UI design principles, patterns, and best practices
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles
  • Knowledge of computer science data structures and algorithms
  • Familiarity with TDD methodology and continuous integration tools such as Jenkins
  • Knowledge across relevant technologies such as HTML5/CSS, REST, JSON, XML, SQL, JavaScript, jQuery are all a plus
  • Broad experience working with hardware interfaces is a plus
  • Any video streaming experience is a huge plus
