The Network Planning Engineer requires an active Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility. They will have a strong background in the management and maintenance in Microsoft Server environment; will maintain Network Operation Centers’ Servers and Virtual Server environment per DoD Netops governance and procedures. The Network Planning Engineer will be responsible for the collaboration of planning and engineering of the Operation Centers’ servers and virtual environment infrastructure. Includes the implementation and design of hardware and software. Monitors the performance of systems. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of managing servers and virtual environments. Ability to perform tasks under minimal supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Will report to the engineering supervisor and site manager. Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in area of specialty and 6-8 years of hands on work experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide operations support, daily coordination and system optimization; monitor the status of the networked systems and backup capabilities across all locations
  • Maintains data centers’ servers, virtual environment, and services that are required for Operational Network Management
  • Plans, designs, integrates, and implements engineering changes to the program data centers
  • Tests and deploys patches and updates to infrastructure systems to ensure assurance of network and compliance with Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVA’s) and Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements
  • Documents all System infrastructure equipment for Asset, Configuration, and Change Management
  • Supports the Change and Configuration Management processes by identifying engineering requirements, designs, and implementation strategies
  • Maintains system configurations to include system connectivity diagrams, and configuration backups for all system servers and virtual environments within the span of management and control
  • Determines requirements for, and maintains, sparing material needed to support the Operations center and COOP locations
  • Develop, implement, and update procedures to perform or request maintenance actions to return equipment and systems to service as needed to support ongoing operations
  • Use available diagnostic tools to analyze and troubleshoot network server environment to identify potential problems and develop solutions before outages occur.
  • Coordinate Authorized Service Interruptions (ASI) schedules and ASI execution
  • Meet IA workforce requirements defined in United States Department of Defense (US DoD) Directive 8570.01-M

Qualifications: (refer to Career Framework)

  • Must be able have a Top Secret clearance with eligibility to SCI
  • Sec+ required and one of the following also required: MCSE, Network+, CCNA Security, CySA+, or CISSP
